Re: [pima.nius] Job: Blogger/Journo in Samoa | tavita?

Dennis A. Smith says:

"Or are you just peeved that you can't get something free off a Palagi?"

I can feel the steam building between my ears ... how DARE he! In response to some quite accurate concerns, instead of answering those concerns, this idiot insinuates that Samoans are freeloaders.

As a kiwi palagi myself, instead of using some very choice palagi swearwords, like fuckwit, I'd ask him these questions:

Are kiwi palagi the worst for travelling and moaning about the cost of everything, packing their little vegemite jars, and boasting when they rip off the locals? Who are the real freeloaders?

Also:

Do palagi travel to the Pacific meet other palagi?
Do palagi travel to the Pacific experience palagi culture?
Do palagi like to ask other palagi about Pacific attractions?

In my adoptive homeland, the Cook Islands, we have a Kiwi-owned magazine that uses nearly all local writers, and very successfully too - so his contention that a Samoan could not do the job because it is for a "palagi audience" is ignorance at best and racism at worst.

Dear Mr Dennis A. Smith,

Have a lovely time in Samoa.
As a coconut crab climbs a tree. He gets ever higher finding both his view of the world and the world's view of him - changes.
You have a generally generous writing style though still developing an "understanding" as you say.
We are confident that you will.
Peace out!
