Concerns NZ MInistry of Pacific Affairs may close
Updated
There are concerns amongst Pacific island communities in New Zealand that a government ministry dedicated to helping them may be shut down. The Ministry of Pacific Affairs was set up twenty years ago, but with financial pressure to cut government expenditure mounting, there are fears it could close entirely. The opposition Labour Party spokesperson on Pacific Affairs, Luamanuvao Winnie Laban, says such worries are legitimate, given what she describes as the ruling National Party's track record of not focusing on the needs of Pacific communities.
