FIJI INTERIM REGIME EXTENDS EMERGENCY RULE
http://www.rnzi.com/pages/news.php?op=read&id=52675

SUVA (Radio NZ International/Pacific Media Watch): The Fiji interim regime has extended the Public Emergency Regulation until the end of April.

The one-month extension was signed by the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

The interim regime imposed the emergency rules last April 10 when the constitution was abrogated after a court found that the Bainimarama interim government was illegal.

Under the regulations, police, military and public servants have the powers to stop events they deem to be a threat to the country’s security.

The interim regime has said once a new Media Decree has been released, the emergency regulations can be lifted.
