Manslaughter charges have been laid against some of the key players in the MV Princess Ashika tragedy in Tonga.

Last August, the inter-island ferry Princess Ashika sank, less than six weeks after it had arrived in Tonga. A Royal Commission of Inquiry into the sinking has found the ship was unsafe and unseaworthy when purchased, and so far some charges have been laid against its operator and captain.

The Royal Commission is preparing to hand down its final report and recommendations, which are expected to be made public on Wednesday.

Pacific Correspondent Campbell Cooney asked the Managing Director of Matangi Tonga online news, Pesi Fonua, just who has been charged.

Presenter: Campbell Cooney, Pacific correspondent
Speaker: Pesi Fonua, Managing Director of Matangi Tonga online news
