News release event - 1
April 6, 2009
Let me hear you say P!...M!...As!
It's that time of year again to give some big ups and mad respect to the talented Pacific artists in New Zealand.
The S3 Pacific Music Awards are back and as fly as ever; set to take the stage at Manukau City's TelstraClear Pacific venue on May 23. The finalists will be announced on April 16 with an event at the Manukau City Council Civic Centre.
The world class event is full of swagger and style, including live performances together with the awards presentation making for one of Manukau City's biggest nights out.
Now in their fifth year, the Pacific Music Awards acknowledge the success of Pacific artists in New Zealand, celebrate and promote excellence in Pacific music and encourage young Pacific musicians to aspire to higher levels of achievement.
"The traditionally-influenced sounds of Pacific music are powerful, meaningful and tell a story," says PMAT Spokesperson, Rev. Mua Strickson-Pua. "There's no better way to celebrate this than with a dazzling first class event supported by the music industry with Pacific communities. Pacific music wins in the end."
S3 has again stepped up to the mark and is the naming rights sponsor of the awards.
S3 (pron. ess-cubed) is a Pacific community initiative dedicated to promoting road safety among young drivers and pedestrians. It aims to reduce the risk, hospitalisation rates and harm that road accidents have on the nation's Pacific people.
The event is also supported by associate sponsor, the Manukau City Council and award category sponsors APRA, the NZ Music Commission, Niu FM, Radio 531, Manukau Institute of Technology and supported by TelstraClear Pacific, Pacific Blue and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs.
The nominations for the S3 Pacific Music Awards are for recordings released during the 2008 calendar year.
Awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Pacific Music Album, Best Pacific Song, Best Female Artist, Best Pacific Male Artist, Best Pacific Urban Artist, Best Pacific Group, Best Pacific Gospel Album, People's Choice: Best Pacific Artist, Phillip Fuemana Award (Most Promising Artist) and Lifetime Achievement.
