AMAZING TALENT, GREAT TUNES – CULT SINGING SHOW RETURNS TO SCREENS - ON MAORI TELEVISION!
A show with a style and flavour all its own, live singing competition HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI has grown a large and faithful following over the last two series, from the amazing talent that turns up to audition every week to the dedicated viewers that tune in at home.
The cult, interactive karaoke programme returns for a third series on Maori Television on Friday May 1 at 8.30 PM.
Filmed in front of a studio audience at Maori Television's Auckland base, performers travel with their supporters from all around the motu to be part of the fun, entertain the crowd – and have a crack at winning the hearts and text votes of the audience.
"HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI invites the nation to switch to Maori Television for some good, old-fashioned entertainment," says the show's producer Erina Tamepo. "No one gets voted 'off the island', no one is judged on how they look, and no one is made to feel bad. We like our contestants to feel like the stars they are."
The irrepressible Te Hamua Nikora is back as host, with side support this year from past HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI contestants and friends, who made their names in previous series of the hit show.
Series one and two both found some incredibly deserving grand finalist winners - Gisborne teenager Jasmine Taare in 2007, and down-to-earth soul singer Pikiteora Mura-Hita, of Pukekohe, in 2008. This year, producers will once again be on the look out for talent and passion, from a mix of ages, ethnicities and song genres.
Karaoke kings and queens can register to audition from 5.00 PM every Friday at Maori Television's central city studio in Davis Crescent, Newmarket. Contestants must be over 16 years of age and will be chosen for their singing and performing talents. Costumes, effort and any other eye-catching devices are encouraged.
The lucky finalists will then perform live on HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI from 8.30 PM and the weekly winner of $1,000 is chosen by the most text votes received from viewers. Voting lines open after the final contestant has performed. To vote, viewers can text to 368. The keyword is 'paki', leave a space, then add the number of the contestant. Texts cost 99 cents each.
Nau mai, haere mai! Be part of the interactive action for the series premiere of HOMAI TE PAKIPAKI on Maori Television from Friday May 1 at 8.30 PM.
