Commonwealth Short Story Competition deadline approaches

 

Now is the time for CBA member radio stations to encourage their listeners to enter the Commonwealth Short Story Competition. Here are some quick points that could be mentioned.

 

  • The winner receives a prize of £2,000 and there are regional prizes of £500.
  • The competition is open to all people who are citizens of a Commonwealth member country.
  • There is no age limit or requirement to write about a particular theme.
  • Entries may be made by both amateur and professional writers.
  • The stories must not exceed 600 words.
  • Entries should be sent to e.dcosta@commonwealth.int

 

The deadline for entries: 11 May 2009

 

Interviews with the CBA or the Commonwealth Foundation can be arranged via adam@cba.org.uk.

Apply for MA bursary at Universiti of Brunei – deadline extended

 

The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association invites applications from full-time staff of CBA member organisations from the developing countries of the Commonwealth for a one-year Masters in Public Policy at the Universiti of Brunei.

 

This is a full-time course and the bursary includes full tuition fees for the selected applicant and free accommodation at the university hostel (single room only). This is being sponsored by Universiti of Brunei Darussalam.

 

The bursar or his organisation cover the airfare and subsistence.

CBA & Thomson Foundation Distance Learning Course: Introduction to TV News Reporting & new TV Technologies **last chance to apply**

 

This 8 week distance learning course is a distillation of some of the "must have" basics skills of TV production. It aims to help working TV reporters and producers to understand a range of issues and skills and to help them to apply them to their daily work.

 

Note: applications must be endorsed by the applicant's Manager. Non-CBA Members, or applicants from the developed world, can enroll for a one-off fee of £250 to be paid via PayPal on the CBA Website.

Applications for Commonwealth Professional Fellowship 2009

 

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission supports fellowships for mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to spend periods (typically three months) with a relevant UK host organisation in their field for a programme of professional development.  This can include a very limited time for attendance at short courses as well as visits to other organisations.  Approximately 65 Fellowships are awarded each year. The CBA is prepared to support appropriate, high quality applications from employees of its member organastion. 

 

Applications can only be made through the CBA which acts as the 'nominator'.

 

Application forms and more details on the fellowship are on the CSC website at www.cscuk.org.uk

 

A statement of not more than 400 words explaining to which extent the fellowship will be relevant to your organisation  and country should be sent with the completed form as well as a draft clear programme which you would wish to follow as part of your professional development for the 3 months to Jas@cba.org.uk

CBA MA programme in London

 

Final selection meeting for the one year CBA MA programme in London will take place on the 23 April 2009 and successful participants will be notified thereafter.

 

 

CBA Bursary to visit IBC

 

The CBA is again offering a bursary to visit IBC in September 2009. Applications are invited from staff working for member organisations in the African Continent, Asia, the Caribbean and Pacific Islands.

 

Applicants should hold a position in their company which has responsibility for technical matters at a policy or planning level and for which a visit to IBC would benefit them and their companies but due to financial restrictions they would not otherwise be able to attend. Only one application from a single company will be considered, so it is advantageous that companies ensure that there strongest candidate applies. In the event of multiple applicants from the same company only the first one received by the CBA will be considered.

 

Closing date for applications for the bursary is 25th May 2009 and the successful applicant will be notified by May 31st.

 

The bursary will cover the economy return airfare to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, five nights bed and breakfast accommodation and a daily subsistence allowance. In addition the successful applicant will have access to all conference proceedings and the exhibition. It will be the applicants' responsibility to obtain a visa to visit the Netherlands. Letters of invitation will be provided.

 

IBC takes place from the 10th until the 15th September 2009. More information is available at www.ibc.org.
