Sydney, 4^th February 2010: Australia Network Launches Series 2 of Pacific Pulse

On February 7^th, Australia Network launches the second series of Pacific Pulse bringing more great stories from the Pacific to viewers in 44 countries across Asia, the Pacific and Indian subcontinent. Pacific Pulse is a weekly magazine-style program, that brings together people of the Pacific and takes their stories to the world.

 

Pacific Pulse shares Pacific Islanders’ experiences and celebrates their achievements and aspirations with feature stories that venture beyond the urban capitals to rural villages and remote areas across the Pacific, seeking voices that are not often heard on international television, particularly women and children.  Australia Network has responded to overwhelmingly positive feedback from viewers after the first year of Pacific Pulse,  launching a second year and another 40 episodes of Pacific Pulse as part of the channel’s ongoing commitment to providing relevant content to Pacific audiences as well as viewers throughout Asia, where there is a growing appetite to learn more about this exciting region.

 

The new series will also provide an opportunity for Pacific people to tell the world their own stories with a new space on the Pacific Pulse website where the audience can share their stories, send in photos, even videos,  and where they can interact with Pacific Pulse viewers from other countries. Pacific Pulse is co-presented by Tania Nugent, who’s presented Nexus and English Bites on Australia Network, and Clement Paligaru, whose voice is recognised across the Pacific as a former presenter of Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat and current co-presenter of In the Loop. 

 

In the first episode of Series 2, Clement travels to the heart of the Cook Islands’ pearl industry, the remote island of Manihiki, 1200 kilometres from the Cooks’ capital, Rarotonga, to meet the producers who’ve not only survived the near collapse of the industry, but who believe the Cook Islands is ready to take on the world’s biggest black pearl producer, Tahiti, with a campaign to restore the lustre to the Cook Islands’ pearl reputation.
