[pima.nius] Re: PIPA Sends Relief Containers to Tsunami Stricken Samoa

11:15 PM |

Wow!! What a response. After spending the day packing today at PIPA and seeing the huge response, I was left pretty overwhelmed. It's great to see. But, now being full to capacity - PIPA is saying "STOP!! Thank you very much but we can't take any more."

An awesome response indeed and more than two containers worth of clothing, shoes, housewares, tools, camping equipment, food and a whole array of stuffs came in and filled several rooms at the PIPA campus.

Volunteers worked the two days sorting and boxing everything and will be continuing tomorrow before shipping of the containers.

It was also great news to hear that a group in association with La'auli Michael Jones was also organising some 15 containers to be shipped over.

Another piece of good news and showing the rallying that has been going on; TVNZ and Tagata Pasifika have had collection bins at the Auckland station and these will be added to the containers going over.

Farmers has also pleged 3 containers full of brand new clothes.

There have been several funds set up to help in the relief effort but also the focus should be on rebuilding (and not just rebuilding but totally redesigning and building for the long term).

In this regard there is still much work to be done and I for one am looking forward to getting involved.

Auckland based PIPA (Pacific Institute of Performing Arts) is sending two containers of supplies to Tsunami stricken Samoa. The first container (20 foot) will leave for Samoa on the Tuesday 6th of Octoer and will offer those affected transitional supplies.
Releif container organisers Goretti Chadwick, Anapela Polataivao and Olivia Taouma say the effort has come about as they saw and heard stories of what had happened and realised as capable people they could actually do something about helping those in need.
If you would like to donate supplies you can drop them off at:

PIPA at UNITECH Gate 4 on Carrington Rd
This weekend between 10am and 9pm.

After hours drop off in West Auckland call: Goretti Chadwick on 021 538580
After Hours drop off in South Auckland call: Anapela Polataivao on 0211432680

Things they are looking for:

Sanitary products, toiletries, female sanitary products, jandals, footwear, tents, tarpolens, cans of food, boxes of water and anything else people think may be of help.

But the relief effort will not end this weekend. PIPA is also looking to fill a second 40 foot container, which will leave Auckland on the 20th October. The last date for the dropping off of supplies is the 18th of October.

This is a bigger container and may be able to fit larger items. PIPA welcomes any supplies or assistance.

Donations of materials are much appreciated.

Endz.
