Future for Creative Arts at MIT

Kia ora, Talofa, Bula, Malo e le lei, Kia Orana, Fakalofa Iahi atu, Hello Aaron

I begin this email with exciting news.  The visioning exercise for the Manukau School of Visual Arts has revealed an energy and desire for a new Centre for Creative Arts at Manukau Institute of Technology.

Here is the essence of the vision.

• Development of a Centre for Creative Arts encompassing the existing Visual Arts School and building on delivery of creative writing, performance arts.

.• Qualifications that move away from the traditional single discipline approach
• Development of qualifications at multiple levels from Certificate through to post garduate, that will allow students to engage in integrated creative arts studies that have both specialisations and the opportunity to apply mixed disciplines to performance e.g. creative writing/visual arts/drama
• Establishment of a business/ entrepreneurship theme within the qualifications
• Development of qualifications that are delivered in practitioner/workshop /studio based mode.
• Attraction of esteemed practitioners as teachers, role models, mentors, practitioners in action and supported by tutors who mediate between artists and students.
• Consideration of short courses and post grad opportunities for students/employers from other disciplines who would see "creativity" as a valued attribute.
• Significant learning/teaching/performance interface with the rest of MIT and the community, including a facility central to student/community engagement.

I thank you for your contribution to this exciting vision, whether you were able to attend the workshops, or send emails, or have phone calls. All the input was valued and all contributed to this successful and exciting outcome.

I believe that a position description for the Head of Centre will be available in the near future. One of the key roles of that position will be to maintain and develop connection with the communities and I hope you will continue to support the new Centre.

Respectfully
