talo fa peni,
when I first got to Samoa I was shocked too - at the sophistication with which the government of Samoa is 'spinning' this story.
I think what people will find is that all the shouting and screaming has been replaced by an embarrassed silence in Apia, with media outlets and officials alike realising they simply went too far. JAWS has yet to release a promised statement and neither, for that matter, has PFF, the Pacific Freedom Forum, despite months of criticising PINA for staying silent on similar issues.
TVNZ would pull that promo in a hot second if management was not 101% confident of facts surrounding the story, and the ability of its reporter to convey those facts. As for the so-called affidavits in Samoa, I wonder if their multiple contradictions can be attributed to the hours long-beating they got in the police cells that night, or the beatings they endured from their villagers over coming days?
Yes, One News is a consistently sexed up news source, but, hey, guess what, that's what you get when everyone slurps up a quarter century of fundamentalist capitalism - sexy. I worked with (and competed against) the reporter in question for more than a decade in the Cook Islands and the allegations against her are funny to anyone who knows her. But not at all funny for those who don't. You'll notice no one is suggesting she lied about coming from "Hollywood" or bribed the boys with "booze" - anymore. If anyone wants to argue the story, point-by-point, then that's great, but I am not sure those-in-the-know in Apia will really appreciate the extra attention.

Fakalofa Lahi Atu,
From the isles of Niue we say thank you to Shimpal Lelisi and Tagata Pasifika for their presentation on Niue last night.
It is a pity not to hear from this news forum so I thought I would share a little.
The budget? We don't hear much from the Pacific community regarding what this means?
I wonder what do people think of it? Is the insulation idea a good one?
On the Barbara Dreaver. What has happened since the BSA complaint went in?
I am shocked that still TVOne is airing a promo which features a bit from the item.
It airs on TVOne with the logo at the end "Qantas Media Award Winner, Best News"
Having that snippet on air even while it is under a BSA procedure shows that TVOne does not take the BSA or the concerns of the Samoans people very seriously.
This adds to their lack of credibility and disregard towards the matter.
Those are my thoughts for the moment and I hope others will be brave enough to keep this forum going.
to lui mai au
Have a good long weekend
Peni
