Has the Pacific Way been eroded?
Coined in 1970 by Ratu Sir Kamisise Mara, the term has served Fiji well in its attempts to explain its various coups. It has also been picked up by other Pacific nations and used extensively in forums such as the Pacific Islands Forum.
But what relevance does it have in today's geo-political environment? Can it withstand the fast changing world that is Small Island State Pacific New Zealand and Australian relations? Is it in fact being eroded away? And, if so, by whom and to what purpose? Has it in fact lost its meaning?
