Pick of the Commonwealth

In this month's edition:

*       After yet another peaceful election, is Botswana still Africa's most
democratic country? Or are standards beginning to slip?
*       Commonwealth Heads of Government prepare to meet in Trinidad, but
what do civil society groups expect from them?
*       Sri Lanka's Tamil refugees begin returning home at last
*       and we hear the winning entry to this year's CBA short story competition.

Pick of the Commonwealth is a 30-minute monthly radio programme,
available to all CBA member stations for re-broadcast free of charge.
It includes stories and interviews from around the world - putting
your listeners in touch with the people and issues that matter. It is
available from www.cba.org.uk/pick, or by WRN satellite relay. If your
station is unable to access it, please contact Adam Weatherhead:
adam@cba.org.uk

Educational Programmes for Botswana

The Ministry of Education in Botswana is engaged in a project which
seeks to establish educational television in the country. The target
is to have the launch of the new service by the last quarter of 2010.
Television is still relatively new in Botswana, with Botswana
Television only launched in July 2000. The educational programmes will
be broadcast through the current Botswana Television channel before a
dedicated educational channel is established.

The new Educational Television service will acquire programmes through
Commissioning, In-house productions and purchasing of programmes from
established broadcasters and producers. They request sample programmes
to look at with a view to considering them for purchasing for the new
service. If you are able to be of assistance, please contact Project
Coordinator, Mr Kgopotso Ramoroka: KRamoroka@gov.bw
