Nauru's Speaker resigns causing more turmoil

Updated May 18, 2010 17:05:32

There's more political turmoil in Nauru after the sudden resignation a short time ago of the parliamentary speaker, Godfrey Thoma. The country has faced an uncertain political future after the last elections resulted in a deadlock in the 18 seat parliament. Mr Thoma was chosen after five failed attempts in three weeks to select a speaker. But one week into the job, Mr Thoma has quit - forcing Nauru back into a world of political uncertainty.

Presenter: Rob Sharp
Speaker: Marcus Stephen, Nauru's caretaker President
