Pacific Pulse
one ocean – many stories
Pacific Pulse ventures beyond the headlines with feature stories from Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia that reflect contemporary life across the Pacific and recognise the strengths, hopes, achievements and aspirations of the region.
Episode 16
In this episode of Pacific Pulse, Tania Nugent looks at how Samoa inspired sport in the Cook Islands with its connections to China. The Cook Islands are also now benefitting from China's investment in infrastructure and development across the Pacific, with China offering coaches to help improve the competitive standards of the Cooks' athletes at international level. Clement Paligaru is in Solomon Islands where a group of Micronesians have made their home among the predominantly Melanesian islanders. The Solomons' Gilbertese community had to leave their homeland, Kiribati, but proudly retain their cultural connections to the atoll group formerly known as the Gilbert Islands, while also calling themselves Solomon Islanders.
