PUBLIC BROADCASTER CHAOS FAR FROM OVER
http://sundaychronicle.blogspot.com/2010/04/public-broadcaster-chaos-far-from-over.html
By Robert Palme
PORT MORESBY (Sunday Chronicle/Pacific Media Watch): Chaos and confusion is the order of the day in the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) of Papua New Guinea, a staff member has told the Sunday Chronicle.
According to a senior staff member, the tussle over the managing director's position between the incumbent, Joseph Ealedona, and board chairman-appointed Memafu Kavera is far from over.
He said on Wednesday, technicians pulled off the Kundu 2 signal following the suspension of the acting executive director for Kundu 2 TV, Joe Wafewa.
He said for a good three hours, Kundu 2 did not have any signal between 12 and 3 pm but technicians at the NBC exchange at Boroko picked up the problem and had it installed.
The officer, who did not want to be identified in fear of reprisal, said the technicians wanted to meet with the management at Studio 204 but the management did not turn up.
He said there is total confusion and the government must do something about it to resolve it immediately.
He said both men have already divided the staff and a completely new person is needed to neutralise the situation.
Meanwhile, lobbying for this position is going on and the Sunday Chronicle is reliably told that some have brought submission for the position to the Prime Minister.
The State Solicitor had written to Ealedona that his time had lapsed and that he could not act as the MD but the Department of Personnel Management had advised otherwise, creating total confusion.
