This opening is special....
The 2010 Manukau Pacific Arts Summit has been built around the success of Fresh Gallery Otara since its establishment in May 2006 as a partnership between the Otara community and Manukau City Council. Over four years, almost 50 exhibitions have been presented featuring the work of more than 120 artists. Blood's Thicker Than Mud, Klavenes' second solo exhibition at FGO represents the gallery's culture and identity, taking south Auckland / Manukau City artistic excellence to New Zealand and the world.

As the Pacific Arts Coordinator for Manukau City Council, Fresh Gallery Otara has been the public platform for my work supporting the development of an already robust Pacific arts sector in Manukau City. We have hosted exhibitions, talanoa / dialogue, workshops, poetry and music... we have had so much interaction, engaged so many hearts and minds, inspired and created a fertile ground for meetings, interactions, ideas.

I am moving into a new role within the Manukau Arts unit, to become the Visual Arts Manager for the new Mangere Arts Centre, due to open in September 2010. Blood's Thicker Than Mud will be the last exhibition I will oversee here... please join us to celebrate Fresh and all the artists who have made its name so known. The role of Pacific Arts Coordinator is to be advertised in the coming month. In the meantime, the excellent work of Nicole Lim - FGO Gallery Assistant, will continue and an exciting programme of exhibitions is currently being finalised for July - December.
