Tonga democracy movement leader suspended from Parliament
Updated
The leader of Tonga's Human Rights and Democracy Movement, Akilisi Pohiva, has been suspended from Parliament for two weeks. He was accused of lying to the House when he made comments about the King ordering expensive improvement to the Royal palace in Nukualofa. The government disputed those claims, but Mr Pohiva refused to back down, saying he was making a fair comment about a statement issued by the Lord Chamberlain. The democracy movement leader says he should not be banned from Parliament for a fortnight, as every MP should be free to say what they like when the house is sitting.
