Episode 20 - Nokondi's Morning Call

 

In this episode of Pacific Pulse, we bring you the work of a team of student film makers.  The Yumi Piksa project at the University of Goroka was started to train Papua New Guinean students in the art of film making so local people can tell the world their own stories.  In just 6 weeks, the Yumi Piksa team produced three extraordinary short films that have now been shown at film festival s around the world, from Tahiti to Germany.  One of these films tells the story of the mythical figure Nokondi - custodian of the environment in the eastern highlands province. Local artist, George Sari uses his art to try to pass on the legend of Nokondi and the  knowledge of his grandfathers, which he insists is relevant for today's youth,.
