NO AMENDMENTS CONSIDERED FOR MEDIA DECREE - AG

SUVA (FijiVillage.com/Pacific Media Watch):  Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says no approaches have been made over the Media Decree by the Fiji Times, which is 100 percent foreign owned.

There is no indication that an extension would be given to the company which has to sell off 90 percent of its shares to local buyers by September 28.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the decree was in effect and everyone should follow the set time frame.

Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum said the government was also concerned with the reports of the News Limited-run newspapers in Australia, which also owns the Fiji Times.

There is no confirmation on when the Public Emergency Regulation will be lifted.
