Pacific Pacer Plus health worries
Updated
The PACER Plus free trade agreement is aimed at liberalising trade among Pacific countries, something governments hope will lead to greater economic prosperity. But a group called the People's Health Movement is concerned about the impact PACER Plus could have on health standards in the Pacific. There are reports from other parts of the world that free trade agreements have had negative impacts on the health of people - particularly in developing countries. For example, a free trade agreement like PACER Plus could make it easier and cheaper for companies to import unhealthy food, tobacco, and alcohol, and harder for governments to regulate the sale of those products.
