Calling for Applications for the Building Courage Under Fire & Visioning Article XIX in the Pacific Workshop.

 Port Vila, Vanuatu: 11-15 April, 2011

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) through its Regional Media Centre (RMC) in close collaboration with UNESCO will be undertaking a workshop on Media Freedom which is developed to provide media practitioners with a sound understanding of freedom of expression, freedom of information, media freedom and the relevant national, regional and international policy frameworks that impact these area. Furthermore, it hopes to enhance skills in the development of advocacy campaigns that increase awareness and understanding at the community level of the role and relevance of these freedoms in supporting broader development goals; support in the establishment of mechanisms for monitoring as well as strategically reporting and disseminating information on the violations of these freedoms that occur in their countries and the region and allow for support in the fostering/creation of a Pacific community of practice on media freedoms.

Workshop Dates:  11-15 April 2011

Theme:  Building Courage under Fire & Visioning Article XIX in the Pacific

Who Can Apply:  Working print, broadcast, and online journalists in the Pacific particularly from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, and Samoa, Vanuatu

Funding:  The workshop is made possible through the UNESCO IPDC funding programme. Funding includes accommodation, travel and living allowances whilst in Vanuatu.

Application Deadline: Friday, March 11, 2011

News organizations are also asked to support their employees' participation.

An "Employers Statement of Support" is a requirement for the application and applications without the endorsement of employers will NOT be considered.

Applicants must submit the Application Form Attached before the deadline.
